Geraldton District Hospital Amends Bylaws

Last year there were many new Acts and Regulations that affected the operations of hospitals throughout Ontario.  Subsequently, Hospital Bylaws had to be amended to accommodate changes, such as voting rights and membership on Quality Improvement Committees.

The Geraldton District Hospital (GDH) Board of Directors made these changes, as well as many more.  Other changes include:

1. Defining the Service Area for membership purposes on the Hospital Corporation: the service area is from GDH north to Ogoki, south to Caramat, east to Klotz Lake and west to Jellico.
2. Membership fees: this is now free so everyone over 18 years of age who maintains a principal residence within the defined service area saves $5.00 and does not have to worry about missing the annual deadline to purchase a membership.

Individuals interested in becoming a Board member must follow Article 4.7 “Nomination Procedure for Election of Directors”.

Subject to section “4.1 Composition” and all other provisions of this Bylaw, nominations for election as Director at the annual meeting of the Corporation may be made only by:

1. The Nominating Committee of the Board; or
2. Members of the Corporation provided that each nomination by members:
   1. is in writing and signed by at least two members in good standing; and
   2. is accompanied by a written declaration signed by the nominee that they will serve as a Director in accordance with this Bylaw if elected; and
   3. is accompanied by a completed application form; and
   4. is submitted to and received by the Secretary of the Board at least thirty days before the date of the annual meeting.

This years Annual General Meeting of the Corporation of Geraldton District Hospital will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Northern Horizon Health Center.
