Auxiliary / Gift Shop

The Geraldton District Hospital Auxiliary is an organization of volunteers dedicated to helping the Hospital patients, staff, administration and visitors by raising money to purchase needed items.

The Auxiliary meets the third Monday of each month (September to May) in the hospital conference room to discuss issues, schedule events, disburse funds, and organize activities.

Events:

Fall Bake Sale (members who sign up for this activity will be called to donate)

Hospital Auxiliary Penny Auction – February (includes: canvassing businesses for auction items, calling members for baking, scheduling members to sell advance tickets, workers needed on the day of the event to help with the Fish Pond, craft table, bake table, kitchen, door, etc.)

Fundraisers:

Sunshine Gift Shop – volunteers are needed to work in the gift shop in the Hospital lobby. Shifts are 1 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 8 p.m. daily. Responsibilities include: balancing the cash, recording sales, restocking pop and chips. A Criminal Record Check is required. The number of shifts per month depends on each individual’s availability. If violunteers are not available, the shop is not open. Dorothy Friske is the coordinator. She can be reached at 854 – 1437.

Membership Drive – held yearly in the Spring. Cost is $5.00. Membership status can be inactive or active (work in Gift Shop, knit or make crafts for the Shop, baking twice a year)

You can get involved by:

  • Becoming a member of the Auxiliary
  • Volunteering to work in the Sunshine Gift Shop or at events
  • Donating knitting or crafts to sell in the Gift Shop
  • Contributing to bake sales
  • Supporting events (bake sales, Penny Auction)

Spring 2011
Once again, it is time for the Hospital Auxiliary Membership Drive.
The Executive of the Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who supported us during the past year. Our membership drive was very successful.  Many people chose to give donations with their membership-THANK YOU
In 2010, the Auxiliary:

  • gave daffodils to the residents and patients in support of the Cancer Society
  • provided personal care items (shampoo, powder, etc.) to residents in Long Term Care
  • gave Christmas poinsettias, tins of cookies and 2 pair of non-slip socks to all residents of John Owen Evans (JOE) Residence
  • gave carnations to the women in the JOE Residence for Mother's Day
  • gave personal hygiene kits to the men in the JOE Residence for Father's Day
  • awarded a bursary to graduating student Glenn Checkley of GCHS
  • gave active volunteers small gifts during Volunteer Week and at Christmas to say Thank You

What can you do?
Please return the left side of the membership card with your $5.00. If you would like to knit or do crafts to sell in the shop, the Auxiliary will provide you with the materials. If you haven’t worked in the Sunshine Gift Shop, but would like to, indicate the day(s) and time(s). Many people only work one shift a month and this is a big help as the Gift Shop will only be available to patients and visitors if there is someone to volunteer to open it. New workers will require a Criminal Records Check (no cost to volunteers). Forms are available from the the O.P.P. Returning workers only need to complete an Offence Declaration.

You are more than welcome to attend meetings which are usually held the 3rd Monday of the month (September to May) in the Conference Room at the Geraldton District Hospital. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and usually last 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
