Dr. Susini joined the Group as a full-time physician in January 2012.

He obtained his Medical Degree at Saba University School of Medicine in Netherlands
Antilles.  He completed his Family Medicine Residency in Racine, Wisconsin and Omaha, Nebraska.

Dr. Andrew Hamilton

Dr. Hamilton joined the Group as a full-time physician in September 2012. 

He completed his Medical Degree at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and completed is Family Medicine Residency at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Edward Hargassner

Dr. Hargassner provided medical services in Geraldton as a locum since January 2006.  He joined the Group as a part-time physician in October 2012 and full-time in November 2012.

He completed his Medical Degree at the University of Western Ontario and his Family Medicine Residency at McGill University in Montreal.

The Geraldton Medical Group is currently recruiting family physicians to join their medical team.  Physicians receive a guaranteed income through an Alternate Payment Plan and time off to enjoy a quality lifestyle.  The practice is located in the Northern Horizon Health Centre immediately adjacent to the Geraldton District Hospital. The Group is funded for 7 family physicians under a Northern & Rural Physicians Group Agreement (RNPGA). Flexible work arrangements for both full and part time physicians are available.

Physicians provide primary health care at the clinics in Geraldton and Nakina as well as ER coverage at the Geraldton District Hospital.  Low risk obstetrics and minor surgical services are optional.  Full specialists back up is available in Thunder Bay.  The physicians are affiliated with the Greenstone Family Health Team and have access to Nurse Practitioners and other health care professionals.
 

Physicians can provide educational and practicum opportunities for medical students and residents from various universities and residency programs.

The Rural and Northern Physicians Group Agreement (RNPGA) provides an annual income range of $395,000 to $415,000 with 8 weeks paid vacation/CME.

 

Geraldton is designated as an underserviced area by the MOHLTC and Family Physicians are eligible for the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Incentive of $113,400 over 4 years.  The Hospital offers other incentives such as education funds, free clinic space and supplies as well as relocation cost reimbursement.

Locum Opportunities

 

Locum physicians provide services at the clinics in Geraldton and Nakina as well as emergency coverage at the Geraldton District Hospital. Minor surgical services and obstetrics are optional. Locums for clinic only may also be available.

As a locum you can expect to be booked for 12-15 patients per day on clinic days, some openings are left for walk ins/fit ins. Physicians are responsible for their own inpatients or patients admitted without a family physician. As for ER on call, the schedule varies depending on the number of physicians available; you can expect to be on call 1/3 to 1/5. The ER on call is 24hrs and the average number of visits is 27, Monday usually being the busiest.  You are not booked at the clinic when on call. Evening and night call is taken from home.

Private accommodation with internet access is available. Travel & accommodation are reimbursed through the underserviced area program at the MOHLTC. Locums are paid $500/travel day if they are coming from more than 4 hours away.

Locums covering for a permanent physician are processed through HFO under the Rural Family Medicine Locum Program and locum covering vacant positions are processed through the Ministry.  Emergency coverage remuneration is the same for both locum programs.

Dr. Roy Laine Chief of Staff

Dr. Laine established his medical practice in Geraldton in 1979.

Dr. Laine obtained his medical degree from Queen's University in Kingston, interned at the University Hospital in Edmonton and subsequently did a post graduate training in general surgery in Kingston.

Dr. Maria Iskhakova

Dr. Iskhakova joined the Group as a full-time physician in January 2009.

She completed her Medical Degree at the Kyrgyz University and her Anesthesiology & Intensive Care Residency at Central Clinical Hospital in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, USSR.  She completed an anesthesia fellowship through the University of Toronto in 2006 and the McMaster University Family Medicine Residency Program through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay in 2008.

Dr. Georgina Bell

Dr. Bell joined the Group as a part-time physician in October 2010.

She completed her Medical Degree at the Spartan Health Sciences University in St. Lucia, West Indies and the McMaster University Family Medicine Residency Program through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay.
