Board of Directors Approve 2013/2014 Capital Budget

April 10, 2013

The Annual Capital Budget planning process commenced four months ago.  At that time, managers consulted with their staff regarding departmental equipment and renovation needs.  Quotes and estimates were obtained and all items were prioritized.  The Board has subsequently reviewed the extensive list and has granted final approval as follows:

  • Equipment $312,400
  • Renovation projects $656,000

The majority of the funds to pay for the almost million-dollar budget comes from the Hospital’s reserves and donations.  The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has granted the Hospital $69,725 from the Hospital Infrastructure Renewal Fund to help offset the cost of replacing the electrical back-up generator, estimated at $565,000.

Some significant equipment purchases will be a nurse call system and an ultrasound machine in the Emergency Department, a computerized patient documentation system in the Acute Care Unit, new table and chairs and an Arjo chair in the Long-Term Care Residence, a new electrocardiogram in the Laboratory and a transducer in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

The full list of equipment and renovation projects in the Capital Budget can be found on the Hospital’s website at www.geraldtondh.com.  If you do not have access to a computer, please contact Diane Kampela at (807) 854-1862 ext. 102 and she will gladly mail you a copy.
