Chic Designer Bags for Chemotherapy Patients
Two members of the Greenstone community decided that people who are undergoing one of the most grueling types of medical treatments – chemotherapy – likely do not think of purchasing smaller items that could help them throughout the process of receiving their chemotherapy. On their own time and resources, two women of our community decided to go out and ask for donation items from various companies so they could fulfill this kind act of giving.
Seema Parameswaran and Jenny Arsenault, are shown in the photo, with one of the Registered Nurses at Geraldton District Hospital’s emergency department who is certified in chemotherapy drug treatments, Jenny Leuenberger, RN.
Parameswaran and Arsenault were able to donate designer bags, the brand name of the bags are ‘thirty one’. They are filled with various items from toothbrushes, kleenex, stress squeeze items, cross word puzzle book with pen and warm socks, just to name a few them. They had made up a total of 92 bags, with Geraldton District Hospital being given approximately 50 bags and the remaining bags being donated to the Tamarack House in Thunder Bay.
Our chemotherapy patients were very grateful to receive one of these bags. It helps to put a smile on the face of someone who is undergoing treatment that can leave them feeling drained and fatigued. The hospital has already given out 15 to 20 of these bags to chemotherapy patients.
“The greatest form of charity comes from hearts and helping hands. Though it may not be known who lends a helping hand, or the significance of their time and effort, the impact it has on another is invaluable.” said Chief Nursing Executive, Laurie Heerema, of these donated gifts.
It shows there are people in our community that do care, and their act of kindness does make a difference.
